Karine Martin reçoit le prix par le programme des NATIONS UNIS pour le développement de la Culture Chinoise (2011) Karine Martin was the recipients of a special award given by the UNITED NATIONS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM , the Administration of Foreign Expert Affairs, China Tianjin Television and Phoenix Television on October 31, 2011. The award, titled, “You Bring Charm to China,” is given to foreigners who have made a significant contribution to the country. Karine Martin was chosen for her dedication to promoting and developing the traditional Taoist culture. As part of this recognition, two separate documentaries about Karine’s life, and her journey from neuroscientist to Taoist nun were featured on the long-running television show China Right Here. Both programs were aired on national Chinese television and broadcast on international stations in the U.S., Hong Kong and Canada. Every other year, the show selects 10 people in China who exhibit outstanding vision and passion for their work. This year’s show was held in Beijing. Taoism…we have all heard of it, but not many of us truly know or understand what it is or the power behind it. For one special French woman, Taoism has become a way of life. She is Karine Martin…also known by her Tao name…Jing Xiu.

Karine Martin is from Montlucon, a small town in southern France. She graduated from Paris University as a physician, and for nearly five years, worked in England, where she conducted research on the brain’ s reaction to drugs. One day in 1998, an English friend took her to meditation. That was her first exposure to Taoism. When she describes the feeling from that experience several years ago, she is still surprised: “meditation made me relax, and I never had such feeling. I always thought I had known a lot of things. Until now, I just know that I still have things I have never known. ” This first experience made her fall in love with Taoism. Afterwards, she read the English and French version of “Lao Tse” and “Chuang Tse”, and fell even more in love with Taoism. As a result, she quit her job in England and came to China to be a Taoist.

What is Tao? And why does Tao attract Jing Xiu so much? Taoism is the only major religion that came exclusively from Chinese roots and grew to maturity on Chinese soil. Taoism, along with Buddhism and Confucianism, became one of the three great religions of China. Buddhism stresses standing aloof from worldly affairs, while Confucianism the opposite. But Taoism stresses both sides. In its broadest sense, Tao is the way the universe functions, the path taken by all natural events. Tao is nature’s way, expressed in effortless action.

Deuxième Colloque International Inter-religieux Christianisme et Taoisme à Singapour

Titre du speech de Karine Martin: Les Trois trésors du Taoisme (en anglais)

BUT DU COLLOQUE (5-7 nov 2018, Singapour)

Le Conseil pontifical pour le dialogue interreligieux, l’archidiocèse catholique de Singapour et la fédération taoïste de Singapour ont organisé conjointement le deuxième colloque chrétien-taoïste à Singapour du 5 au 7 novembre 2018 (le premier avait eu lieu à Taiwan en 2014). Le thème du colloque était « Éthique chrétienne et taoïste en dialogue ». Soixante-dix spécialistes chrétiens et taoïstes, ainsi que de nombreux acteurs du dialogue interreligieux, venus principalement de Singapour, mais également de Chine, de France, de Corée du Sud, de Malaisie, de Suisse, de Taiwan et du Vatican, ont pris part à cet événement.

La rencontre avait pour but d’approfondir le dialogue entre chrétiens et taoïstes, dans des échanges à la fois intellectuels et informels, en réponse aux défis contemporains dans les domaines de la bioéthique, la pauvreté, la morale en économie et les problèmes environnementaux.

Ce fut un grand plaisir, de nombreuses rencontres amicales et beaucoup de joie lors des 2 conférences où nous avons eu l'honneur d'être invité à représenter officiellement le Taoïsme.

Les deux conférence furent organisées par le Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth - MCCY de Singapour.

Nous avons présenté les vues taoïstes par rapport au développement scientifique et technologique de nôtre époque.

Nous avons rencontré Mme la Présidente de la République de Singapour ainsi que différents représentant du ministère, ainsi que de nombreux experts internationaux spécialisés dans le dialogue interculturel et la paix.

Nous avons profité de nôtre passage à singapour pour revoir nos amis de la fédération taoïste de singapour. Ceux-ci comme promis nous ont offerts trois statues des trois purs qu'ils ont spécialement fait faire en Chine.

Une longue amitié nous unis depuis plus de 10 ans et nous les remercions sincèrement pour leur soutien.

The International Conference on Cohesive Societies (ICCS) will be held from 19 to 21 June at the Raffles City Convention Centre in Singapore.

The Conference will focus on the theme: Many Communities, One Shared Future.

It offers a platform for conversations on forging stronger interfaith understanding and developing new ideas to foster greater harmony in societies.

• We recognise that increasing tensions and fault-lines in religiously and culturally diverse countries can threaten social stability.
• We see value in different countries sharing their experiences and discussing how we can all find new and better ways to build stronger societies.
• The event will bring together scholars, community leaders and policy makers, as well as religious and interfaith leaders from around the world, to explore and understand key issues, share best practices, generate discussion, and build bridges and networks to further the cause of social harmony.

The Conference programme will commence with an Opening Dinner on 19 June 2019 followed by the Conference proceedings on 20 and 21 June 2019, featuring plenaries and breakout sessions, as well as community learning journeys.

A Young Leaders’ Programme will run prior to the Conference programme from 18 to 19 June 2019. Additionally, an exhibition open to the public will be showcased alongside the ICCS event
